Environmental Racism and Silent Genocide
Mini-Series 2: Environmental Betrayal
How they sold out the planet and the people most at risk.
✍️ By Bekah Fox
“It’s not just pollution. It’s policy.”
“It’s not just neglect. It’s genocide hidden in zoning laws and pipelines.”
What if I told you that the most toxic places on Earth aren’t accidents… but decisions?
From poisoned water in Flint, Michigan… to cancer alleys in Louisiana… to Indigenous lands stripped bare for profit the most exploited communities are often Black, Brown, poor, or Indigenous. And that’s not a coincidence. That’s environmental racism.

And it’s killing people. Quietly. Systematically.
🌱 A War You Can’t See, But You Can Feel
Polluted air, undrinkable water, soil that won’t grow food these aren’t side effects. They’re symptoms of a deliberate system of disposability. When corporations and governments collude to dump toxins near marginalized communities, it’s not about “bad luck.” It’s about who they think won’t fight back.

This is the silent genocide they never have to admit to.
Because it happens slowly.
Because it’s written in zoning codes.
Because it’s buried under years of bureaucracy and bought-out science.
🛢️ Who Profits When We Get Sick?
Industries like oil, mining, and agriculture target communities with the least political power. And when the consequences hit asthma, birth defects, cancer no one’s held accountable. Why?
Because the same system that poisons you…

owns the hospitals.
owns the courts.
owns the press.
It’s all connected. And they’d rather blame you for being sick than admit they sold out your land for profit.
📍The Victims Are Always the Same
Look at any map of environmental disaster zones you’ll find them disproportionately placed near:
Black neighborhoods Native reservations Immigrant communities Low-income housing zones

You’ll also find centuries of silence and decades of ignored warnings.
This isn’t just about climate. It’s about colonialism repackaged in pipelines and land grabs. It’s the same system it just learned how to wear a suit.
✊🏽 So What Do We Do?
We name it.
We expose it.
We refuse to let it be invisible anymore.
This episode of Environmental Betrayal exists because truth still matters even when it’s uncomfortable. Especially when it’s dangerous.

We can’t save the Earth without protecting the people who’ve always been closest to it.
We can’t talk about climate without talking about race.
And we can’t stay quiet anymore.
